Duo
Mark Buckingham and Harry Whalley have recorded an interesting CD of improvisations
at the Cathedral at Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. Harry plays the cathedral
organ, which is one of the best in Ireland, and Mark plays Bb, bass and
contra alto clarinets and alto saxophone. The sonic possibilities of each
of the instruments are vast, yet when played in a duo are immense. The
musical processes employed for these improvisations were to listen, “know”
the other player, intuition, vision, empathy and also respect for surroundings
which in this case is a very sacred site. The improvisations were recorded
by Max Buckingham, using digital and mono analogue equipment. All the
proceeds of this CD go to the cathedral. Our aim with this area of performing
is to make fund-raising CDs for Cathedrals around the world.
